The project «European Citizens for Solidarity» was funded with the support of the European Union under the Programme “Europe for Citizens”


Applicable to the Strand 2 – Measure 2.1 “Town-Twinning”

Participation: The Town Twinning Project “European Citizens for Solidarity”, promoted by the Comitato per il Gemellaggio del Comune di Santa Teresa di Riva in cooperation with Santa Teresa di Riva Municipality (Italy), it involved a total of 89 citizens from all over Europe: 6 participants from Freguesia de Buarcos (Portugal), 23 participants from Federacion de Asociacions Xuvenis para a Mobilidade Europea (Spain), 35 participants from Kalinda Municipality (Slovakia), 6 participants from Cesis municipality (Latvia) and 19 participants from Gmina Przygodzice (Poland).

07/03/2022 to 13/03/2022

Day I – 07/03/2022
It was dedicated to Arrival of the International Project Partners and Welcome Ceremony

Arrival of the International Project Partners at the airport, initial welcome and transfer by bus to Santa Teresa di Riva.
Welcome Ceremony, in the presence of the President of the Twinning Committee of the Mayor, the Executive and the City Council and citizenship.
Reception and accommodation to the Hotel.
Evening: Welcome dinner and overnight stay


Day II – 08/03/2022
It was dedicated to Raising the Flag Ceremony + Presentation of the Project + Working Group

Morning: At the Val D’Agrò Theater the Ceremony of presentation of Partner involved, presentation of the territories and countries at the presence the citizens, politicians, the member of the town twinning committee, NGOs of the territory.
Presentation of the “European Citizens for Solidarity” Project of its Aims and Objectives Afternoon: Working Group on “The importance of Town Twinning: citizens protagonists in Europe”
Dinner and overnight stay


Day III – 09/03/2022
It was dedicated to Competition of ideas + Workshop

H 9: Awarding of the winner of the competition of ideas for the design of the Twinning Logo created by the pupils of the comprehensive school of Santa Teresa di Riva.
Workshop and exchange of good practices at the Liceo “E. Trimarchi” on “The European Solidarity Corps and Youth Mobility Programs”, Erasmus Plus Program.
Comparison and Discussion

Day IV – 10/03/2022
It was dedicated to Brotherhood ceremony + Seminar + Visit of the territory

H 10: Ceremony of brotherhood between cities with the performance of the National and European anthems.
Debate and Dissertation on Solidarity in times of crisis and supporting tools.
“European Citizens for Solidarity” Twinning Seminar with Speeches by Citizens, Experts, Local and Regional Politicians, Members of the Sicilian Regional Parliement, and Local Mayors. Exchange of Gifts
Afternoon: Visit of the city of Taormina with an Institutional meeting with the Mayor and the President of the council in the city hall, and the Bay of Naxos.
H 20: dinner


Day V – 11/03/2022
It was dedicated to Interactive seminar + Round Table

Morning: Interactive seminar: “Volunteering and the third sector: solidarity assets”. Voluntary and third sector organizations are extraordinary resources of the community, making it stronger and more united, with the Participation of Red Cross, and the AVIS, organization of donation of blood.
Afternoon: Round Table with the participation of voluntary associations that represent an undisputed heritage, not only because they play an important role in helping the weakest, but because they spread a culture of solidarity and brotherhood

Day VI – 12/03/2022
It was dedicated to Interactive seminar + Workshops + Multi-ethnic Dinner

H 9,30: Interactive seminar “Too much individualism. Solidarity is Fundamental: Europe in the time of the millennials”.
Open discussion with students on the trends, dreams and hopes of Generation Y kids.
H 13 Lunch
Afternoon: Interactive Workshop: “The round table of cultures” + Food, contamination, and traditions
H 20 Farwell dinner.


Day VII – 13/03/2022
It was dedicated to Networking; Reflection Group and final evaluation of the implemented activities; Departure of partner delegations; Closing of the Twinning

Morning: Networking, Future collaborations on activities to be implemented in common.
Reflection Group and final evaluation of the days lived, Shared reflections.

– Free space to express oneself and express one’s ideas

– Administration of initiative evaluation questionnaires.

Ceremony of greeting and farewell between local and international participants.

Return of foreign delegations
